Prequalification: "IE of a pilot aiming at fostering economic participation of adolescent girls Niger"
As part of the Sahel Women Empowerment and Demographic Dividend (SWEDD) Project; the World Bank team is supporting the SWEDD team; government counterparts; and technical partners in designing and testing a pilot intervention Personal Initiative (PI) training in Niger. The intervention; that ended in August 2024; targeted out-of-school girls and young women; married and unmarried; 15-27 years of age at the start of the intervention; with the goal of empowering young girls and promoting their participation in income-generating activities (IGA). The World Bank’s Africa Region Gender Innovation Lab is conducting an impact evaluation of this intervention to provide solid evidence of the effectiveness of the PI training on girls’ economic empowerment outcomes; business practices; personal initiative and entrepreneurial skills; socioemotional skills; decision-making and other outcomes. The baseline survey was conducted in March 2024; and the first follow-up was conducted between April and June 2025. The World Bank team is seeking to contract a survey firm to conduct face-to-face surveys; with work expected to begin on November 1st; 2026. Each young women survey is expected to take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and will be done using standard electronic data collection platforms.
